I'm Margaret Miko. Every piece here was knitted by my own two hands here in Hackney.
It began over 20 years ago with a friend's first baby. I made her a small cardigan, rather badly, and something about it stuck: the quiet of it, the slowness, the idea that a few evenings of my time could turn into something a family keeps for years.
So now I make these one at a time. A single piece takes me days, and once it's finished I never make the same one twice. There is no workshop behind me and no machine, only me, my needles, and whatever happens to be on the radio.
The embroidery is the part I love most. Little flowers, the odd rabbit, whatever the piece seems to be asking for. It's slow going and I rather like that. It means every piece leaves here having had my full attention.
Everything I knit with is 100% natural: organic, non-toxic, and the finest quality I can lay my hands on.
If you'd like something made especially for your little one, just say. I take on a few commissions each season, and I'd love to hear from you.
